Free Form

The title of my project is Free Form, an underwater exploratory site. Free Form is an experimental
website that aims to excite and encourage underwater exploration. It aims to do so by connecting
stories, sounds, imagery, and traditions that we may or may not be familiar with. This site houses
eight experimental pages, allowing users to interact, listen, change and see the ocean in
completely new ways.
There is a plenitude of websites that offer answers to many questions about the deep sea, but
how do you get someone to curate such questions? Free Form aims to be the launching pad
for interested and new explorers. In a world influenced by technology, this site exists in a virtual
realm, accessible to almost anyone. Free Form exists as its own as a website, but can also be
embedded as a meta-site, in supplement to websites like NOAA and National Geographic.
Creating new minds is not the aim of this project, but creating new perspectives is the challenge
for Free Form. Marcel Proust said, “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new
landscapes, but in having new eyes.” Free Form aims to give “new eyes” to people in relation to
the ocean. After visiting Free Form, users are encouraged to continue to explore other sites that
may answer some of their greater questions. Free form will be the curator and facilitator of the
users.
